In partnership with Michigan’s hometown utilities, Truscott Rossman worked to build, grow and maintain Citizens for Michigan’s Energy Future (CMEF) – a broad, statewide coalition of businesses, nonprofits and community organizations committed to a strong energy future in Michigan. CMEF’s main objective was to advocate for the successful passage of an updated energy policy in Michigan.
Throughout the campaign, Truscott Rossman was responsible for all aspects of strategic communications strategy, including the development and implementation of clear, concise and consistent key messages and collateral materials. The coordinated statewide strategy utilized earned, paid and digital media tactics to reach target audiences in the most impactful way. Specific tactics included legislative communications, statewide media relations, grassroots digital campaigns, strategic events, and paid digital media advertisements.
CMEF’s work culminated with the passage of Senate Bills 437 and 438 with bipartisan support in both the House and Senate. More than 70 percent of Representatives’ and nearly 90 percent of Senators’ voted in support of the energy package. Governor Snyder signed the bill into law in Dec. 2016.
