Calendar features Truscott as James Bond and Rossman as “M” in “No More Casinos Royale”
LANSING, Mich. — The 18th Annual Truscott Rossman Calendar goes out today to more than 5,000 recipients worldwide. This year’s calendar features John Truscott as 007 and Kelly Rossman-McKinney as “M,” the fictional character who heads up the Secret Intelligence Service in the James Bond series.
The eagerly awaited calendar satirizes the year’s statewide and national political events, ranging from Proposals 1-6 being launched from the ejector seat of Bond’s Aston Martin to Newt Gingrich on the moon. Among those depicted are President Barack Obama, Governor Mitt Romney, Governor Rick Snyder, Lt. Governor Brian Calley, Attorney General Bill Schuette, Michigan Supreme Court Justice Bridget Mary McCormack, Senator Debbie Stabenow, Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer, Speaker of the House Jase Bolger, former State Representative Roy Schmidt, State Representatives Lisa Brown and Barb Byrum, UAW President Bob King, former Detroit Medical Center CEO Mike Duggan and Ambassador Bridge owner Matty Moroun.
“There was no shortage of material in 2012,” said Kelly Rossman-McKinney, CEO of Truscott Rossman. “From the elections to the Tigers’ AL pennant, we tried to capture the biggest news of 2012 in this year’s calendar.”
Some of the biggest stories of 2012 are included in the calendar, ranging from the fiscal cliff negotiations in Washington, D.C. and the passage of right to work legislation in Lansing to the Roy Schmidt party switch controversy and the silencing of Lisa Brown and Barb Byrum on the House floor. Tim Skubick, Dean of the Michigan Capitol Press Corps, makes his thirteenth calendar appearance.
“There was no way to include every big story from 2012 in this year’s calendar – but we certainly tried,” said John Truscott, president of Truscott Rossman. “We delayed the release of this year’s calendar so we could ensure it featured late breaking stories like right to work and the fiscal cliff.”
President Obama’s quote on this year’s calendar – as he rides with Speaker Boehner off the “fiscal cliff” – features a quote (“Forward!”) submitted by Graham Filler in the annual Truscott Rossman Calendar Caption Contest. More than 75 entries were submitted via TR’s Facebook and Twitter accounts and were judged anonymously by the entire TR staff.
The calendar features the work of Henry Payne, syndicated editorial cartoonist for The Detroit News and other nationwide publications. Payne’s awards and achievements as an artist include runner-up for the Pulitzer Prize and the Mencken Award. He is one of the few syndicated political cartoonists in the country with work distributed to more than 60 newspapers – including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA Today, and the National Review.
Truscott Rossman will distribute more than 5,000 calendars across the United States and internationally. Copies were mailed out today.
