‘Feeding Frenzy’ Energizes Capitol Crowd through 20-hour Lame Duck Session

LANSING – State lawmakers, legislative staff and lobbyists devoured more than 587 cups of coffee, 1,076 pieces of candy, 538 bags of chips, 600 Slim Jims, and 600 Fabiano chocolate bars during the annual Truscott Rossman feeding frenzy, which took place on the final marathon lame duck session Thursday and Friday in Lansing.

“After a historic week like this one, we were asked by several frenzy-goers if we could get a one-day liquor license for next year – we’re not making any promises, but we’ll see what we can do to supplement the theatrics, jerky and Gardettos,” said Kelly Rossman-McKinney, CEO of Truscott Rossman. “We love keeping legislators and lobbyists fueled up during these long annual sessions.”

The hundreds of people working at the Capitol during the final day of lame duck session consumed hundreds of pounds of food and hundreds of gallons of coffee, pop and juice. By the numbers, the feeding frenzy food highlights include the following:

· 538 Bags of chips · 264 Sweet and Salty packages
· 600 Slim Jims · 240 Packets of gum
· 48 Holiday Pop suckers · 162 Packets of Combos
· 385 Bags of M & M’s · 315 Twizzlers
· 280 Candy canes · 240 Granola bars

· 1,076 Pieces of candy · 288 Bottles of juice

“If there is one thing that brings people together it’s food and drink,” said John Truscott, president of Truscott Rossman. “After the kind of week we had, we’d like to think that we helped bring people back together on a bipartisan basis.”

This was the second Feeding Frenzy hosted by Truscott Rossman since Kelly Rossman-McKinney and John Truscott joined forces in January 2011. The event had been a longtime tradition of Rossman-McKinney’s firm, The Rossman Group. Food was provided during session on Thursday, Dec. 13 and Friday, Dec 14, a session that lasted nearly 20 hours.
