Hundreds celebrate Fat Tuesday at Truscott Rossman’s 14th annual Paczki Party

Attendees devour more than 86,400 calories in good company

LANSING – Truscott Rossman hosted civic leaders, legislators, administration officials, business leaders, lobbyists, local media and community members from across the state at the firm’s 14th annual Paczki Party on Fat Tuesday.

The event – a Capitol staple since 1999 – also was the first stop for about 60 local chamber members from Grand Haven, Grand Rapids, Holland and Muskegon who were in town to visit legislators during West Michigan Business Day.

About 350 people started their day with paczkis, coffee and fresh fruit to celebrate. Attendees consumed nearly 18 dozen paczki – or about 86,400 calories worth of the pastries, which have about 400 calories each.

“While I do not recommend daily consumption of paczkis, it’s great to indulge every now and then in great company,” said Truscott Rossman CEO and Principal Kelly Rosmman-McKinney. “It’s always great fun to host our clients and friends at this annual event.”

Paczkis were quartered to limit the impact on guests’ diets, since burning off 400 calories would require either walking at 5 mph for 36 minutes, treading water vigorously for 29 minutes, walking on a treadmill at 10 percent incline at 8 mph for 16 minutes or playing tennis for 36 minutes.

“Despite the potential damage to waistlines, we’ve found nothing brings people together in this fractured, political town like the paczki,” said John Truscott, president and principal of Truscott Rossman. “Our firm always enjoys bringing people together in a bipartisan fashion at this event.”
