LANSING – Gov. Rick Snyder’s “Extreme Makeover” of the state is the theme of Truscott Rossman’s 2012 calendar, which today goes out to more than 5,000 recipients worldwide.
The popular calendar annually spoofs Lansing’s political scene, and this year’s edition features the artwork of Detroit News editorial cartoonist and writer Henry Payne. Among those depicted are Snyder, former Gov. Jennifer Granholm, Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville, Senate Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer, House Speaker Jase Bolger, Michigan Economic Development Corp. CEO Mike Finney and political newshound Tim Skubick. Even the elusive Matty Moroun makes an appearance.
“We appreciate Henry’s gift for illustrating our not-always-politically correct satire and humor, both of which are played to great effect in this calendar,” said CEO and Principal Kelly Rossman-McKinney. “He helps make the Truscott Rossman calendar a coveted office accessory.”
This year’s calendar features Snyder driving the “Right to Work” bus and alludes to other key issues Michigan faced in the past year, including the Wayne County Airport Authority scandal, the Occupy movement, the controversial bridge and the recall of former Rep. Paul Scott.
“The annual calendar is a fun way of wrapping up our firm’s first year as Truscott Rossman,” said President and Principal John Truscott, who joined forces with Rossman-McKinney in January 2011. “We know the expectations are high for this calendar, so there was a certain amount of lighthearted pressure involved in our calendar brainstorming sessions.”
Payne’s awards and achievements as an artist include runner-up for both the Pulitzer Prize and Mencken award. His work is distributed to more than 40 newspapers including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA Today and the National Review. He also writes a daily cartoon blog “Payne’s Sketchbook.”
