Truscott Rossman Unveils 19th Annual Calendar

LANSING, Mich. — The 19th Annual Truscott Rossman Calendar arrives this week – barring snowpocalypse-related mail delays – to more than 5,000 recipients worldwide. This year’s calendar features principals Kelly Rossman-McKinney and John Truscott in “The Anchorman Anchorwoman 3: The Legend Continues,” a sequel (not coming to theaters anytime soon) to the latest Will Ferrell “Anchorman” movie.

The calendar satirizes the year’s major statewide and national news stories, ranging from Michigan State University’s recent Rose Bowl appearance to the Wayne County Jail “coming sometime.” Among those depicted are Gov. Rick Snyder, Congressman Gary Peters, former Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon, Michigan Democratic Party Chair Lon Johnson, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer, former State Treasurer Andy Dillon, former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, Fox 2 Detroit reporter Charlie LeDuff, Quicken Loans CEO Dan Gilbert, Detroit Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer and Detroit Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson.

“It was hard to narrow down the top stories of 2013 for this year’s calendar,” said Rossman-McKinney, CEO of Truscott Rossman. “We’re pretty sure this is the first time Governor Snyder and Miley Cyrus have been depicted together – we hope!

“Luckily for (Lansing Board of Water & Light General Manager) J. Peter Lark, the calendar went to press before the big power outage – but we expect he’ll have a special place in next year’s calendar,” Rossman-McKinney added.

Stories featured in this year’s calendar range from the Detroit bankruptcy filing and mayoral election to the Grand Rapids Griffins’ Calder Cup win to the opening of Truscott Rossman’s full-time Detroit office in the Renaissance Center. Tim Skubick, dean of the Michigan Capitol press corps, makes his 14th calendar appearance.

“Each city Truscott Rossman operates out of – Lansing, Grand Rapids and Detroit – is featured in this year’s calendar,” said Truscott, president of Truscott Rossman. “From MSU in the Rose Bowl to the Grand Rapids Griffins’ Calder Cup to the Tigers in the ALCS, it’s all here.”

Zack Stanton, a Michigan native who now works in Washington, D.C., won this year’s calendar caption contest for his quotes for Republican Terri Lynn Land and Democrat Gary Peters, who are vying for the seat being vacated by retiring U.S. Sen. Carl Levin. “Michigan may be unLevined… but we’ll rise to the challenge,” reads Stanton’s quote for the two candidates. More than 50 entries were submitted through Truscott Rossman’s website and judged anonymously by the firm’s staff.

The calendar features the work of Henry Payne, editorial cartoonist for The Detroit News.  Payne’s achievements as an artist include runner-up for the Pulitzer Prize and the Mencken Award. He is one of the few syndicated political cartoonists in the country, with work distributed to more than 60 publications including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA Today and the National Review.
